WFH? Here's Why You Still Need a Morning Routine
Stop rolling out of bed and logging on!
Working from home has so many perks: no commute, cozy clothes, and the freedom to make your office literally anywhere (yes, I'm writing this from my couch). But with that flexibility comes the temptation to roll out of bed and head straight to your laptop, skipping any kind of structure. Sound familiar?
Here’s the truth: even when you're working from home, a solid morning routine is still essential. Here’s why it matters and how to create one that actually sticks!
Why You Still Need a Morning Routine
It Sets the Tone for Your Day
When you dive into work the second you wake up, your brain doesn’t get the memo that the day has started. It’s like stretching before a workout, you’re prepping yourself to perform better.
Even just 20 minutes of waking up can help you feel more awake and ready for the day.
It Creates Boundaries (That WFH Often Blurs)
Working from home can blur the line between “home” and “office,” and that’s where burnout creeps in. A consistent morning routine helps you draw a clear boundary between rest time and work time. It's a simple reminder that you're shifting into work mode. Whether it’s making your bed, putting on real pants (or at least real-ish ones), or having a cup of coffee in peace, those habits cue your brain that it’s go time.
Builds Confidence
Look good, feel good! You don’t need a two-hour, cold-shower, journaling-sticking-your-head-in-setlzer-water kind of morning routine. (Unless you’re into that. In which case, power to you.) It's just about feeling put together, and that can be the shift you need. Think about how great you feel when you have an outfit on that you feel good in, it's the same with having a morning routine.
It Helps You Feel Like a Human, Not a Work Robot
WFH days can sometimes feel like a blur of screens, sweatpants, and snack breaks. A morning routine brings back a sense of normalcy. It’s a reminder that you’re not just a task checker; you’re a person, and you deserve some time to make yourself feel good before jumping into work.
How To Build a Routine
Think about what you'd like to prioritize
Start somewhere
Start yesterday
Here are our team's morning routine must-haves:
Jessica: make my bed, gua shua after washing my face, and eating protein for breakfast (smoothie, bowl, something!)
Harmony: make the bed, shower, caffeine!
Maddie: Making my bed, listening to affirmations as I get ready (these are my favorite), and SPF
Working from home doesn’t mean winging it all the time! So, tomorrow morning, before you check emails or dive into work mode, take a little time for you!
